Working in Valley
Valley is in southeastern Chambers County, Alabama, on the west bank of the Chattahoochee. It was incorporated in 1980 by joining four textile mill villages: Fairfax, Langdale, River View and Shawmut. It had 10,529 people in 2020.
I-85 runs through the north end of the city, with exits 77 and 79. US-29 runs through town too, north to Lanett and West Point and southwest about 19 miles to Opelika.
Valley is officially in Alabama's Central Time Zone, but the city unofficially keeps Eastern Time, the same clock as LaGrange. That started because the West Point Pepperell mills were run from West Point, Georgia.
When you call from Valley, tell us your exit number or which mill-village area you're in. That's the quickest way for us to find you.
The old mill-village names are still used for neighborhoods, so a caller saying "Langdale" or "Shawmut" helps us head the right way. Valley is in the LaGrange micropolitan area, and from home base it's a short run down I-85.
Valley unofficially keeps Eastern Time, same as LaGrange.
